A picturesque market town on the Staffordshire Moorlands border

Cheadle is an historic market town with a population of just over 12,200 and is locally known as the ‘Gateway’ to the beautiful Churnet Valley situated within the heart of the Staffordshire Peak District. There are key national employers in or close to the town including JCB the world renowned excavator manufacturer, and Klarius – Europe’s largest exhaust manufacturer. The town is an attractive rural town that has a Grade 1 listed Church, known as ‘Pugin’s Gem’ and whose interior was designed by the world renowned Architect Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin in the 19th Century. Cheadle has well maintained parks easy access to the countryside and is less than 6 miles from the Alton Towers Resort.

Markets, both indoor and outdoor, are held in Cheadle on a Tuesday, Friday and Saturday and the High Street boasts some beautiful Tudor  and Georgian buildings hosting a variety of independent shops. To the South of Cheadle are the remains of Croxden Abbey, founded in 1176 by Bertram de Verdun for monks of the Cistercian Order. In addition to Pugin, William Morris influenced much of the art and architecture of Cheadle. Cecilly Brook Local Nature Reserve is one of the most important breeding sites for water voles in Staffordshire.
